Finally saved enough for Sapphire Radeon R9 270X 4GB overclocked edition and replace my old GT 630. I'm just really terrified about installing it as i have never really tried anything like it before.

My system specs for those wondering are...

  • i5 4440 CPU
    H81M-E motherboard by ASUS
    700 watt PSU
    8GB RAM

Will my motherboard and power supply support this card? If not what will I require?
I am also a bit spoofed about the 6 pin connectors. The website says it comes with 2, 6-PIN to 4-PIN Power Cables. I cannot find any of these on my motherboard or on my current GT-630. Any idea what this is all about?

Forgive me if i sound stupid, I lack in knowledge with computers :)

If this is your PSU: http://www.coolermaster.com/powersupply/thunder/thunder-700w/
...it has a +12v rail that can handle up 55A and rated at 660W, and it has 4 x 6/8 pin PCIe aux power connectors. You are OK with that. So, I don't see any issue with you using any R9-270X card.
If you are worried about the length of the card being able to fit, you'll have to decide on a card first, because they vary in length. But I don't really see any issue with length. At worse, you may have to move your HDD to a different bay if the card hits it.

The "700W" power supply (PSU) is another thing, however. Not all PSUs are created equal. Normally, a 700W would be far more than you need. But there are some cheap ones in use that don't come anywhere close to their rated specs. If you can state the make/model of the PSU... or list the nameplate specs for the +12V section in amps and watts, it would be helpful.

If the PSU is truly a 700W, it will have 6 pin PCIe aux power cables tucked away that you would use to power the new card.

Sure, your motherboard and psu are compatible and about pins, r9270x will feature a 6 pin connector (150w) which you can connect with either a 6pin or 2x4 pins (2x75w) of your PSU.

Well my PSU is the Cooler Master Thunder-700 watt if that helps
