so i want to upgrade to an intel CPU my current processor is at 3.9GHz untouched and for amd thats good it does well but i want a new board and processor for the budget minded buyer you have £500 to work with, let the game commence!

All you want is a new board & CPU?
What's your goal with these parts?

Why not go Skylake? You'll need a CPU/Board/CPU Cooler & DDR4 RAM though....

Got a PM from the OP asking for benchmarks etc, so the post isn't quite as straightforward as it seems......considering they have "an AMD 3.9GHz" to start from.

If memory serves, 3.9GHz AMD chips are the FX-6350 & an A8-6600K......so not sure what we're comparing a new Intel chip to OP?

wanted to see what people came up with i planned to go home on Friday and benchmark what i had and measure against suggestions here. have no idea what chip i have it was built by a friend and i didnt care enough back then what the parts where so i chucked all record of what it was away. and im currently out the house on work and can't check, but my best geuss is either the FX 6350 or the A10 7870k

then that absolutley means its the 6600k or 6350 and... last year

Both mid-2013 chips, so timescale makes sense.

Either of the Intel chips listed so far should absolutely smoke either AMD chips, but benchmarks take time to find.
CPU Boss does an 'at a glance', but it's not the most reliable site.

i7 4790k vs FX 6350
i7 4790k vs A8 6600k

i5-6600k vs FX 6350
i5-6600k vs A8 6600k

actually it just so happens im looking at the site and considering an i7 6700k

Depending on your usage. The 6700k is meant to be between 10-30% faster than the 4790k, but apparently that doesn't really play through - especially in gaming.

They're fairly comparable chips, and yet the 4790k is over $40 cheaper ($322.99 vs $365.99 according to PCPP).
