Why not wait til ATI releases their new card and then make a performance
comparison and pick the best card .

Because ATI is not an option. They have a lifelong history of being
buggy, horrible support and finicky. There actually IS more to life
(and video cards) than cheated up FPS scores.

I was a huge Nvidia fan, having pretty much all their generation cards
through the Ti series.
However, they lost me to ATI, have had a 9700 Pro and now a 9800 Pro. Both
built by ATI, and not a glitch with either one.
Maybe Nvidia can get back in the game, which would be good , after all good
competition benefits us the consuemer- but imho, ATI has had them beat hands
down for the past year.
Now , if the 6800 proves to be better than ATI's next offering, I will
strongly consider moving back to Nvidia.

You're a bloody idiot. Its NVidia who have been cheating recently. The ATI
drivers are excellent. Their cards (up until the 6800) are the fastest.
Just why would you mislead someone so badly?

With a 6800 you will almost need a seperate power supply *JUST* for that
video card, plus you need 1 or 2 more PCI slots just to make way for the
extremely large cooler needed on the nVidia card.

Of course my 9800Pro isnt as powerfull, but I can use it in my current PC,
and even the stock cooler (doesnt block the other PCI slots) it runs quiet,
and cool enough. With a single molex power connected to it.
