Hello, I have a i5 6600k OC to 4.6ghz cooled via a cooler master nepton 240m with corsair af120 fans. i CPU stress tested it for 15 mins and it went to temps of 98 degrees, which is very hot for a skylake. It started at 28 degrees. Ive had this cooler for around 2 years now, i used to have AMD so i then switched it over to the intel bracket when changing cpu etc. Im not sure if this bracket isnt fully compatible with 1151 or my cooler is broken, as i didnt even touch the voltages so surely it shouldnt be this high? I live in the UK and my room is semi-hot but this shouldnt make a massive difference. What is going on with my temps, and is it worth an upgrade to a kraken x61 or possibly even go air and get a hyper 212x?
Thanks for any advice you can give,
Rob

Most probably there is a mounting problem.
> Get new thermal paste like Arctic MX-4 (if you don't have one)
> Remove the CPU block
> Clean both the CPU and the cooler from old paste
> Apply new thermal paste
> Mount the CPU block - make sure that the contact between CPU and cooler is good
> test again.

PS
There is a slight chance that you forgot to connect the nepton to power. make sure the pump is running - it should slightly vibrate when you touch the CPU block.

If your cooler is mounted properly, you should see 10-15c. over ambient when idle.

Stress testing with prime95 and IBT is not realistic.
They use special instructions which are not common to everyday usage.
Try stress testing with OCCT.

Monitor your VCORE. It is vcore that drives temperatures up. You should not exceed 1.4v.

just read a thing about prime 95, it said use V26.6 as it has a different codex or something and is more realistic temps, i am now getting 75 max temps, but i feel now i know that it goes up to 98 there is an issue with my cooler :/
