I am looking for a socket 1155 motherboard that will support Windows Server 2012R2 or Windows Server 2016.

I'm finding that most of the websites for motherboard manufacturers don't really specify much about OS support beyond saying "Windows 10"

If it can use Win 10, it can use Server 2012 and probably 2016.
Of course, depending on what specific features you're wanting to use.

Well, that's true.
But what specific drivers are you referring to? Likely there is a Server2012/2016 version that does run.

I've been using a WinServer on and off on random consumer hardware since Server2000.

I am not referring to a specific driver since I don't even know what motherboard it would be. However, in the past I've had problems with Ethernet and storage device drivers. I never did find drivers and ended up getting add-in PCI-E cards which had drivers. I am trying to avoid that this time.

As USAFRet pointed out earlier, nearly any device compatible with Win 10 will also be compatible with Win Server 2016. My "home server" runs Win Server 2016 Essentials with regular PC hardware. Driver support has been a non-issue.

Interesting.
I've not seen that issue, especially with ethernet drivers.

This one does:
