I have a socket 3 mobo and an AMD Am5x86-P75, X5-133ADW CPU. Thats one hell of a name for a CPU. Anyway I need to know what way the CPU fits into the socket... it fits all 4 ways... so I have a 25% chance. Not good. I have looked all over online and have come up will alot of info in this chip but nothing on how it goes in. please help. thanks, soup.

I don't know.. its old. About the same time as the Pentium 60-90... that was back around '94.. wow, I was only 12 then. So I have no idea how this old stuff works. I would love to get it up and see what it can do... the mobo has 5ISA slots and 3extended ISA (32 bit?) and I have a video card that uses the extended ISA slot.. this was all free. I just want to get it to work.

soup.

On page 8 of <A HREF="http://www.amd.com/products/cpg/techdocs/datasheets/19751.pdf" target="_new">this document</A> from AMD it shows what the pins do. If you can find one for your motherboard then you are OK.

You need to tell us which motherboard you are using or we cannot help. It is common for different motherboards to have different orientations

Thanks for the help smn198. I would love to post the mobo info but see... I cant find anything on it... well i will show you what I can find on the mobo itself. (on the PCB) R407E/V ,(Chipset) SIS 85C471, 9540 st, SIS'94, PFD2343. (BIOS) AMIBIOS, AMERICAN MEGATRENDS, 486DX ISA BIOS '94, AC9028692. i dont know what this chip is but it's huge and it can be removed. (no its not cache) it says BESTKEY, 9603F-3-H.

As you probably know the socket 3 is for the 486 series CPU's therefore it will be very difficult to find info about it. My socket 3 intel 486 installs with the notch on the corner of the CPU facing toward the "socket 3" printing and the lever. I would think the AMD CPU would be the same. Remember that the motherboard must support 486DX-4 cpu. That chip is running at 133mhz (4x33) Not every 486 board will support it. It also needs 3.45 volts. Here is a helpful website.

Good luck.
PS. The Extended ISA slots are Called VLB. Vesa Local Bus. They are 32 bit slots however they didn't last a real long time. They were superseded by PCI. My first computer that I completely paid for with my own hard earned money was a 486 (1500 bucks!) what a bite! Still have it, and it still plays DOOM quite well. Now I use ATHLON!
