I have done a bit of looking but got lost :pt1cable:

Can anybody advise on a decent motherboard that has a pci express socket and a P4 478?

I have a 16 month old 3.4Ghz P4 and would like to buy a nvidea 8800GTX to play some new games. I dont mind if I have to buy new memory as well.

thanks for your time :)

With respect, I wouldn't consider a Via chipset MB a "decent motherboard".
However, I don't think you'll find any decent MBs with both PCI express and socket 478, so you may be stuck with that.
Since a decent CPU (eg. an e4400) should only run you about $130, you should consider buying a new CPU and decent LGA775 MB ($125-150) instead.

I may end up going down that road, as I don't seem to be able to find any boards locally at all (UK)
My main reason for trying was I seen a brand new system with a core duo 2.6 and an 8800GTX with a vista performance score of 4.2
My old rig scores 4.1 (with similar spec memory etc but a geforce 7600 512 card)
Not a huge difference really.
back to the drawing board :)

Cheers for that. £36 delivered is not a huge amount, and it would keep me going until i had enough money to do a full CPU & Memory upgrade
