This is a question that would have been much more relevant a few years ago.

I own a computer with a Socket 939 motherboard with probably the weakest 939 Cpu ever made (Sempron 3200+)

Would it be practical to upgrade this CPU for a cheap Ebay Athlon single core?

What would be the best bang for my buck?

The better CPUs for the 939 socket would be the dual-core Athlon X2 processors.

I've got a couple Athlon X2 3500+ and an Athlon X2 4400+ I need to get rid of actually. LOL But you can technically find faster ones than those that may work on the motherboard.

AFAIK there is no x2 3500. There was an x2 3600, but should be an AM2 part. (I heard rumors of an x2 3600+ for S939, but it was OEM only.) The X2 4400 was both S939 and AM2.

Mastermind, what do you want your computer to do? S939 is pretty much dead. DDR1 ram is expensive, and your limited with what CPU will work with it. Selling it and moving to AM2/S775 is a good cheap way to upgrade. If your not opposed to used items, there can be deals found on forums right now.
