Software for testing Hard Drives health?

Hi all, I have reason to believe my HD is failing ( ), is it recommended to use a testing software for finding out what's wrong? and if yes, what software ?

Speedfan will read sensor information and run SMART testing on the hard drive. You can download Speedfan @ http://www.almico.com/sfdownload.php

All hard drive manufacturers make disk diagnostic utilities for their drives. the most well known of these tools is Seagate's Seatools.

You can also use Windows scandisk, why do you think your HD is failing?

Each HDD manufacturer makes available a fairly intense disk-checking tool. Go to the mfg site, make sure that the software won't trash what's on your disk, and run it.

BUT the first step if you suspect a drive is bad is to make an external backup. That way, you don't lose all your data if the drive fails.
