I have ruled out potential hardware issues - as this issue only occurs on a few games, randomly.

I can play games such as Battlefront 2 (the beta) no problem, all day. PUBG, no problem, all day. etc., It only occurs on a select few games like - Warhammer (but not Warhammer 2), For the King, Divinity 2.

I have tried clean installing windows 10, wiping the drivers and reinstalling (using DDU), analyzing the HDDs, pretty much everything I can think of. Everything shows the hardware is functioning as intended. I stress tested my system and there was no artifacting and no crashing.

After I reinstalled my drivers yesterday I had no crashes...started up my PC today - crashes started again.

Anyone know of any other solutions? Been happening for a few months now and I am at the point where when it happens, I irrationally want to throw my entire system out the window.

I also have the latest drivers.

Win 10 64 bit
GTX 980ti
16gb ram
i7 3770k

I get an error 4401 stating nvlddkm.sys has stopped responding - in the event viewer, (but that is because the app I am using is being blocked from accessing the card for some reason).

I posted on here before with this problem awhile back but I feel like I have actually narrowed down the causes from general to something software related.

I saw some suggestions online that it could be related to a corrupted file in the registry or something? I got my Windows 10 legitimately.

I also saw a fix on here posted in June, but I have no idea what the "best solution" is trying to say...please find the text of it below (and if anyone has the time, could you translate what the guy means for me? He talks about uninstalling drivers but I only have the option to uninstall the card in the menu indicated):

"Uninstall and Re-install the graphic card driver. You can follow the below steps.
press Windows Key + R, enter devmgmt.msc.
choose the graphic driver.
select Properties, and click on Uninstall tab. [NO idea what the "uninstall tab" refers to]

OK.
restart your computer.
right-click on the driver setup file and select properties.

click on the compatibility tab and check the box “Run this program in compatibility mode for” then
choose Windows 7 operating system from the drop-down. [ THIS DOES NOT WORK - I get an error stating the system is incompatible when I change it to compatibility with windows 7]

click Apply then click OK to save changes.
Restart your computer. After restart, you check if this error is resolved.
Using method, you will fix this error. Hope you enjoy it"

I am at a loss and it is unbelievably frustrating having certain games crash on me every 10 minutes. Further frustrated because I am not that computer literate, so sometimes there are explanations of things that seem unclear to me.

Solution
I just had the same problem. I removed the Nvidia driver, rebooted, reinstalled latest driver, and then booted the game through GeForce Experience (which I usually don't like). It worked.
