Software installation problem

I noticed this really odd problem w/ Win2k Pro... Some programs wont install at all, usually EXE just uncompresses itself and displays that preparing software for installation (or whatever...) and reaches 99% and that's it! I think this applies for only certain types of installers because mostly everything works fine. Has anybody had the same problem? If somebody knows a reason or solution for this, it would be great bacause i'm getting really annoyed
