Soks!

No I'm not talking about the former first cat.

I'm talking about real socks. As many of you are well aware of, these
specimens of male garment tend to, after a short while, manifest
themselves as un-paired objects, wherea they (usually) were taken into
custody as paired ones.

For years I have sort of managed, thanks to a good wife who has this
strange (psychic?) ability to find things which aren't there. (But to be
honest, I have been wondering if what she really does is hide the socks,
then "find" them in my hour of need, thus ensuring my dependence and
ever-lasting gratefulness).

Now I've changed my strategy: I recently bought 30 pairs of identical
black socks, and threw all of my own socks into the garbage. That should
settle this matter once and for all. If they hereafter start showing up
as unpaired instances again, then I'll really know something fishy is
going on.

Yet another piece of useless information from

pibbur
Magnus, a norwegian king living about 900 years ago had the nickname
Barfot (barefooted). He probably never solved this problem, and died
only 30 years old. See?

Only happens when I let someone else do my laundry. Since I've been
single again these last four years, I have only matched pairs of socks.

And FWIW, soks spelled with a 'c'.

pibbur
"How do you spell socks? With 4 'p', like in 'horse'"

Well, since I'm a very unstructured person (BASICally like my first
programming language, I guess) I doubt it would matter who did my
laundry. Because any laundry procedure involves the crucial step where
socks are moved, from my lower extremities, randomly towards the set of
garments ready for cleaning. (In fact this procedure indicate that
quantum mechanics may apply to macroscopic objects.)

To quote a children's song popular in Norway:

Where are my trousers, where is my shirt?
Where is my harmonica with 4 tones.
Where is Jesper's hat, where is this and that.
Where's my purse in which I had 4 crownes (NOK).
I'm sure I had them yesterday.
...
Two verses skipped.
...
Where's the sack and the bucket, where's the fat and the duck(et?)
Where's Kasper, Where's Jesper, Where's Jonathan.
Where's chair and table, where is south and north
Where's the money we stole from our grandma
I'm sure I had them yesterday.

As you can se from the last verse, Kasper, Jesper and Jonathan are
thieves, although of a relatively harmless kind. (In the final scene
they become heroes, but I won't spoil too much by telling how). Further,
as is evident by combining the first and last verse, theyr'e not very
successful thieves either. They live in a messy house, with a tame
(only the thieves knows this) lion, and this was their song.
Unfortunately translation from norwegian doesn't keep the rhymes.
