You don't need to go for an i7 for a gaming build (assuming this is what you're building)! I'd strongly recommend an i5 4690k or an i5 6600k, Devil's Canyon is pretty nice and the 6600k is all-around fantastic. Also, unless you're going to be rendering video, you really don't need anything higher than 8 gigs of RAM. And you should seriously drop the SSHD like okcnaline said. You can buy a Caviar Blue and a 240gig SSDNow for cheap.

This is also assuming he's playing in 1440p. Which he very well might, I suppose! I've been using a 240GB SSDNow for a couple years, and I've never had it crap out on me. But hey, Samsung also has some nice SSDs on sale this weekend (and undoubtedly Cyber Monday)!
