Solution to jack failure with my computer

hi there,
i have a problem with my pc,it hp G60-445DX notebook pc.the problem in when ever i fix my jack and phono,i still hear the sound coming from the pc it self but not the external speakers i have given to it through the amplifier.

Does your laptop come with a utility that manages your sound hardware? It's possible that it's set the system to "ignore" anything you plug into your audio jacks.
