Hello;

I got a new gpu yesterday and found out it's making my psu overheat. I am certain of this based on the fact that I can smell almost a burning/heat smell and because the psu housing is almost hot to the touch.

A temporary solution was to take the side panel off the base and have a fan blowing directly at the gpu/psu area. I am looking for a more permanent solution/suggestion.

In the photo I uploaded, you can see that the gpu's fan pushes the hot air down towards the psu.

gpu: geforce 1060 6gb
psu: turbolink atx-xg500w 12v

I thought about putting a psi internal fan between the psu and gpu, but haven't been able to find any convincing review/data online. I also can add 3x 120mm fans, 2 on the top of the case and 1 at the front of the case.

Will these 4 extra fans be enough to keep the system stable? Will the psu have enough power to support them? Is 4 overkill? Any other solutions?

Solution
No even half decent built PSU will ever overheat unless the fan fails or the unit is in extreme temperatures eg ambient of 45c+

But seriously don't use your computer until you get a replacement power supply

Wow, those are some horrid internals, even worse than I imagined (and I have a pretty good imagination).
