Question [SOLVED] AMD RX 570 Issues with AMD HDMI Audio

I have scoured the web for hours upon hours. But it is vast and the combinations of word phrases and quotation marks seems nearly infinite.

I am having problems with HDMI audio in Windows 10.

It started as a problem with just youtube. I would start a video and audio would play for no more than about 3 seconds then cut out. Then I began having to restart some of my games to get the audio working. An intense investigation into the issue reveals that my Radeon Software's overlay was at least partially to blame. I was able to disable it and had less problems, but I still couldn't watch a youtube video. Many hours of searching had me make adjustments to my audio device such as changing the bit rate and frequency, disable it and re-enable it, make a different device default then set it back, turn off enhancements, etc.. I even uninstalled both the motherboard sound and the graphics card suite and reinstalled them both separately and concurrently. Ultimately i was able to get my audio working then went on my merry way. What exactly did I change to get the results I wanted, I do not recall.

Fast forward to this morning. I noticed a driver update for my Radeon Adrenaline software. I update it and now every time I launch Fallout 4 I either get no audio at all or only audio at the logo screen and nothing anywhere else. Yet all other games I have installed play audio just fine. I re-checked my previous trouble shooting and thought I might have a conflict with sound devices. I found my motherboard sounds had not been disabled. So I disabled it, issue has not resolved. I updated DirectX using the package in my steam folder, issue not resolved. I even checked all the previous pages I d scoured on my previous troubleshooting with no success. I have uninstalled the Radeon suite and re-installed it a couple of times. And currently only have the device driver and the AMD audio driver installed. I've updated my BIOS previously but haven't done that since. Interestingly, I have a Corsair wireless headset and have no issues with sound when using it.

To me, everything points to the AMD audio driver or the device that is using it. After going back in the mixer menu I have been noticing that when I access it and click on a tab many times (90% of the time est.) the device will disappear from the menu and I will receive a notification in the area it was just in stating that the device had been removed. From here I have to re-open the menu and start over. This will repeat continuously any time after I have clicked somewhere in the menu. At the same time I have noticed that when i start an MP3 file through Windows media play it plays for 1 second cuts out and then plays normally. This behaviour is consistent after every reboot trial I performed. This got me thinking... I rebooted, played the MP3 observed the behaviour then started Fallout 4 and bam audio. Every single time since I have done this I can get Fallout 4 audio working consistently only by running an MP3 until I observe the behaviour which occurs consistently within the same amount of time. If I run Fallout 4 without this process in place I either get no audio or logo audio and no game audio. The Corsair audio device does not produce this effect when running the MP3 file nor do I have any issues with audio running Fallout 4 or any other game.

I would love to know what's wrong. I windows or AMD the cause, Is my sound just no initializing properly at startup? What can I do to solve it. For now I will use my headset for sound for this game but I really want to resolve the main issue whatever that it. If you can help me I would be grateful. I am savvy to follow instructions but a little lazy when it comes to sitting down and pounding through processes I have never tried before. I don't like the idea of even browsing my registry let alone editing but will do so if I know 100% for sure the issue can be resolved there.

Please help if you can.

Thanks

Same problem.

I think the issue is connected to the sound device being removed while I'm trying to modify its settings. That's either a windows thing or some other app, or perhaps even the tv. I'm just not sure.

In Device Manager, are all your audio devices working properly? And are their drivers up to date?
Can you try another GPU in your PC?

I only have the one system so I wouldn't be able to swap cards around. Eventually, I may end up with a different GPU.

I've updated and rolled back my AMD High definition driver several times with no change. Everything is currently up to date. Device manager shows no conflicts or notifications of any problems.

My thought that maybe another app was causing the sound device to be removed led me to the exclusive control box, but I had already unchecked it.

PROBLEM RESOLVED!!!

So sticking with my hunch that there was a problem with either windows or the audio controller, I was able to resolve the problem by going into Device Manager.

I found the AMD High Definition Audio controller under the "Sound & Video Game Controllers" section of Device Manager.

Then I right clicked the AMD High Definition Audio Controller and selected update driver.

Then I clicked on "Browse my computer for driver software".

Then I had two options; 1) the AMD HD driver or 2) a generic HD Audio Driver.

I chose the to replace the AMD HD Audio Driver with the Generic HD Audio Driver.

Windows prompted me to not install it because it couldn't verify the driver. I installed it anyways.

I rebooted then confirmed that windows did not change it back in device manager. It did not.

I launched my game and audio worked fully. I performed a couple of reboots and launched the game and still audio worked fully.

The takeaway; The "windows verified" AMD HD Audio Driver had problems. The Generic driver which windows 10 "could not verify" works great.

Thanks for being a sounding board.

Nice...

Actually, I'd visited Device Manager many times as stated in previous posts. Each time there was no visual indication of a driver problem. And each time I tried updating/rolling back the AMD HD Audio driver it either would not change anything or I would be told that the best driver is already installed.

No, I think the point to end on is that even if there is no obvious problem in Device Manager, and your current driver is problematic, try updating it with a generic driver as a troubleshooting step, even if it hasn't been verified by MS/Windows.

Again, thanks for responding. Typing out posts helped me to think about the problem in more detail.
