Well,Deus EX managed to push VRAM past 5GB so no issues with VRAM. After clean system install Crash issues gone from ROTTR but it still stay ~4GB.

Hi,I am having a bit trouble with AMD RX480 8GB (MSI Gaming X). When starting Rise Of Tomb Raider (Very High preset) its memory reset to 0 MB after reaching 4gb and then again restarts filling.
The game usually crash at that point .

More Info:if lower to High Preset no problem.
Other games i play don't even reach 3.5 Gb So no problem there at all.

My Question>> is there any way to test all 8GB of video memory of this card?

Specs:
i3-2100,HyperTX3
Asus H-61M-D,G.Skill- 8GB DDR3
Samsung 850 250 GB OS+App Drive,WD 1TB Game Drive
MSI RX480 Gaming X 8 GB (This GPU)
Antec 500W PSU
Resolution : 1920x1080p
Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit, Radeon Drivers 16.12.2

Well,I don't have GTA 5 Installed. Most of games i play stay well below 4GB or even 2GB VRAM mark so that's why encountered the issue in ROTTR.
Do you know any software/benchmark to test all VRAM for issues?

Hey man. I had a lot of crashing with Rise of the Tomb Raider too, on a Sapphire RX 480, 8 gig. I too was suspicious that somehow not all my advertised GPU memory was being used, that it wasn't really 8 gig, and when it ran out of video-memory the game would just crash. After a few different in-game zones have been loaded, RotTR becomes VERY video-memory intensive with the maximum quality setting for textures, even at just 1920x1080 and only FXAA for AA. It will use more than GTA V on the PC.

Ultimately I was able to prevent the crashing by slightly reducing a few quality settings, which only reinforces my suspicions. That said, I know of a way for you to determine if at least more than 4 gigs of your GPU memory are active and functioning.

Download GPU-Z. It has a logging function that you can run in the background while playing games. Set RotTR to ultra settings, everything max, and play it as long as you can. In the log file, there will be a column showing how much of your video-memory is in use. My logs always show just shy 7 gigs in use after a little while. I have never seen it reach 8 gigs. Which, of course, coupled with the crashing, is worrisome.

I have yet to find a benchmarking or memory testing tool that will utilize or test all of the supposed 8 gigs of my GPU's memory. So few cards have that much on-board memory right now that it seems no one is bothering.

@Groza Adrian

3DMark Firestrike never uses even 4 gigs of VRAM, even when maxing everything I can to ramp up the VRAM usage. At least according to my GPU-Z logs.

Actually my issue was resolved after reinstalling the OS.
For testing VRAM i will recommend Deus EX Mankind Divided as it managed to push mine above 7GB mark.

For Rise of Tomb Raider keep setting on ultra just don't use Supersampling ,Keep anti aliasing on FXAA . It will stay around ~72 fps mostly.

My fps is fine in the game, but thanks. What I was talking about was just referring to how much VRAM the game uses, i.e. more than GTA V for testing purposes.

I don't have Mankind Divided, but I'll make a note for whenever I get around to checking it out.

For me ROTTR memory usage is as for everything set to max except aliasing set to FXAA
RAM ~6.6GB
VRAM ~5.4 to 7.5 GB
