Hello

I just installed new CPU, cooler and a motherboard and after boot there is no display. Inter i9-9900k, asus rog strix Z390-f, two crucial 8gb 2400 ram . Motherboard Q-led turns red then instantly yellow after boot. The speaker beep is one long, two short beeps. What do I do? I'm afraid I messed up bad, if it is a dead cpu or something... I have tried out switching RAM in different slots, alone and together.

After searching the internet for answers I found that clearing CMOS or resetting bios could help, but I have no knowledge of how to do that.

All help welcome and much needed. Thanks.

Solution
Welcome to the forums!

First of all, don't panic!

beep is one long, two short
1 long and 2 short on AMI BIOS is usually a GPU issue. What GPU are you using? or are you trying to use the integrated GPU?

Next off, follow every single step in this guide, and be thorough! This will also eventually hit on your resetting CMOS process (resetting CMOS and resetting BIOS are basically one in the same thing).

Solution
  1. CPU pin connector. My power supply 650W, comes with a 8 pin connect that goes to CPU.
  2. Oh, one of them was loose. (!) GPU had the RGB lights on though. After testing, the loose connection didnt matter. Issue persists.
  3. I don't quite understand, what RAM goes where? The manual says A2, B2 is the best for me, but I don't understand how does it matter.
  4. Stripping the whole thing down has to wait for tomorrow. I'm afraid I'll mess up even worse.
  5. I may have put a little too much thermal paste, how bad can that make things? I thinned out the paste to cover little are, didnt leave it just as a drop.
  6. All the 3 + cpu fan work with no issues.

Tried resetting BIOS with the CMOS removal method. Issue persists. What is going on?

Not sure what you're asking here. But anyway, what PSU make and model is it?

It matters because each slot is not just "a slot" they have different channels that communicate with your CPU. You have to set it up as per your motherboard manual, it ABSOLUTELY makes a difference. There is much more happening underneath the surface of your MB.

Application makes very little different in reality, but putting too much on if it overflows and overlaps and sits on the PCB for example can cause a short and cause an issue.

You'll have to breadboard the system after that.

Alright, I scrapped all the parts and reassembled. Turns out I had RAM memory was improperly installed, plus some motherboard screws a little loose etc. small things like that. PC now boots and works with no issues! Thank you for the help :)
