Hello there,

My name is @Vikko151, and I got in my computer 2 Samsung SSDs.

1) A Samsung 850 EVO 256GB -- It's where my system is located. I keep the faster one for my games.
2) A Samsung 860 EVO 512GB -- I put all my games inside.

Today, I wanted to put the game SSD in RAPID mode to ensure Max. Effiency ingame. I did all I had to do; I changed the power settings, restarted my system, but after, my two SSDs are put in Power Saving mode for... no reason. I put back the SSD in Rapid mode again and again, but it never works and makes me crazy. I can't even put them in normal mode. I should also mention I used Samsung Magician for.

My PSU is a FSP Hexa+ 500MW if you need that information. Mabye should I upgrade my PSU?

Whatever, what shall I do? Thanks for your help!

Best regards,

@Vikko151

How much RAM is in this system?

RAPID mode just siphons off part of your RAM, as a cache for the SSD.

I tried RAPID for a while, saw NO user facing benefit. So I turned it off.
Hello @USAFRet,

I got 16GB G.SKILL 1600MHz RAM. I know it's bad. I will change my computer soon, so yea, that's why I am investigating on a dead platform to hold in.

Whatever, not using RAPID mode is OK for me, but the problem is, I'm really stuck in Power Saving mode. I can't even change the Power mode of the SSD. I am just in front of the Samsung Magician app in Power Saving mode...

Is there a problem with my RAM? I am really looking forward to seeing you.

Turn RAID RAPID mode OFF.

Reboot.

See if you can change the power saving mode value in Magician.
Show us a screencap of your Magician window, in the Performance Optimization section.

Hello back,

By RAID, do you mean RAPID? There isn't any RAID settings in Samsung Magician, and I don't use RAID in my system.

Whatever, I found something interesting. I tried to enable RAPID mode in custom mode. I first tried to put OP mode and TRIM on, the activation of the settings was successfully done. Then I tried to only enable TRIM and RAPID mode, at the reboot, RAPID mode disabled. It means that there is an uncompatibility to see this happening. And you might ask, "What is this uncompatibility"? I found something interesting.

If you have a secondary SSD, you can't enable RAPID mode... That's a little bit sad, since it takes much RAM, in benefict of speed. Actually, it's okay. 500 MB/s read and 450 MB/s write is still okay nowadays.

Whatever, thanks for your help. It was nice to meet you!

What is RAPID mode?

RAPID mode is paired exclusively with Samsung 840 EVO SSDs and available as a feature of the accompanying Samsung SSD Magician Software Toolset (version 4.2 and later). When enabled, RAPID mode is inserted as a filter driver in the Windows storage stack. The driver actively monitors all storage-related activity between and among the operating system, user applications and the SSD. The RAPID technology analyzes system traffic and leverages spare system resources (DRAM and CPU) to deliver read acceleration through intelligent caching of hot data and write optimization through tight coordination with the SSD.

Description of filter driver:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Filter_driver

A filter driver is a Microsoft Windows driver that extends or modifies the function of peripheral devices or supports a specialized device in the personal computer. It is a driver or program or module that is inserted into the existing Driver Stack to perform some specific function.
