[SOLVED] [Solved, dead drive] SSD no longer detected after restart in sleep mode

Hey everyone,

I've got a weird predicament here. Last night, I went to bed and put my pc to sleep. When I woke up, it had restarted (presumably for an update I guess) and now my SSD, the one with windows, just will not show up. It wont show up on the AMI screen nor in my bios.

Things I've tried:
- turning it on and off again
- resetting bios/clearing cmos
- swapping cables and ports
- changing csm and secure boot settings

Its a western digital Blue SA510, and the mobo is an asus prime z690-A.

Anyone got any ideas? I'm stumped, but I really need to fix this.

Since you've already tried different cables and different ports, sounds like a dead drive.

What was your backup routine before this happened?
Frankly, not great lol, and even if I have backups at this point I wouldnt remember where I put them

It's not a HUGE loss if the drive is dead since all my games and collections of files are on different drives-- I think the most I'd need to set back up is browsers, steam, couple game launchers and discord-- but that's unfortunate if so. Just randomly kicking the bucket is rough. I'll try it on my brother's pc if he lets me but if not I'll just order a new drive.

The second half of a backup routine is knowing how to recover.

Drives die. Eventually, all of them.
Some sooner that others, and sometimes with zero warning.

Yes, try it on a different PC. See what happens.

Welp, seems the drive is just dead. A good lesson in backups if nothing else! Luckily I have screenshots of things like audio device profiles and obs settings so it shouldnt be that bad to reinstall, but still. Thanks for the help regardless!
