Two weeks ago my trusty old 6870 stopped working. It would power on ok but simply not put out any signal. I found a Powercolor HD7850 for close to £40 off list price on ebuyer.com and promptly ordered it. It arrived the following monday and, after using onboard graphics to scrub my comp clean of drivers, plugged it in. It powered on just fine. No signal. An hour later and multiple bios settings changed, still no signal. RMA'd it (which took another weekend) and got it back 2 days ago with a note on the website saying "No fault detected". So I tried and tried and tried again aaaaaaaaaaaand no signal.
I've tried it in both PCI slots, with other things unplugged & plugged in, on a different monitor, with both available PCI x6 power cables (which I should stress are working fine as my current loaned card is functioning) every single bios setting relevant, I even flashed the bios to the latest version and reinstalled windows. All that happens while it is plugged in is it spins the fan nice and quietly. When I have told the bios to prioritise PEG and reboot it DOES disable the onboard graphics as if it recognises that there is SOMETHING plugged in, but the card still gives no signal and upon rebooting again the bios settings regarding onboard & PCI are reset to 'Auto'.
I'm on Windows 7 64-bit
CPU: i5 2320
Mobo: Gigabyte GA-Z77-D3H
Current temporary card: nvidia 9600GT
Generic 8GB RAM
PSU: Corsair something 500w
blahblah harddrives blah
I will be able to test it in another motherboard tonight which is the only thing I haven't yet been able to do, however if it refuses to work I'll be yelling at some poor sod from ebuyer down the phone tomorrow.
If it isn't dead that would surely mean something is wrong with my motherboard, correct? If so, then why is this current temporary card working absolutely fine without issue?
tl;dr DOA card RMA'd and comes back as 'No fault detected', motherboard & windows all fine, tested in every way except another mobo, if this fails, what do?
