I made a build back in february and the only part i plan on carrying over is my rx 480, heres the specs
i5-8600k
Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 DRAM 2666MHz
Samsung 850 EVO 250GB 2.5-Inch SATA III Internal SSD
Seagate BarraCuda 2TB 3.5-Inch SATA 6 Gb/s Internal Hard Drive
Cooler Master Hyper 212 LED with PWM Fan
EVGA SuperNOVA 650 G1, 80+ GOLD 650W, Fully Modular
ASUS ROG STRIX Z370-E GAMING
MSI RX 480 4GB
ASUS (USB-AC56) Wireless-AC1200 Dual-Band USB 3 Adapter
Inside of a nzxt s340 elite..
im aware that the hyper 212 may not be the best option (I don't plan on over clocking it too far plus ill upgrade it eventually just need it for now)
and as much as id like to go wired internet it just isn't possible in this household
and as much as id like to upgrade the gpu it isn't in my budget and it works fine (Although i will replace it sooner or later)
Planing on using the ssd as a drive boot drive and component drivers
the hdd will be used for anything else
So will this be a good build?

I'm pretty sure that motherboard includes built-in wireless-AC networking, so you most likely don't need to pay for an additional wireless adapter.

a little confused by what you have and what you don't have... so ill suggest this list.. I assume you have your PC case, it's not in the list...

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel - Core i7-8700 3.2GHz 6-Core Processor ($339.99 @ B&H)

So here goes the breakdown...

i7-8700 > beats the 8600k in gaming, even when the i5 is overclocked. Having this CPU even as non-oc will be great, especially when turbo boost will be enabled.
Ram I tried to get something a little faster, maybe 3200 for a few bucks would be worth it
SSD storage.. you really want something around 500GB, I have a 240GB and it fills fast. 2GB for secondary storage, personal experience... don't get any Seagate drives, WD would be the way to go, but nothing well priced in the list at this time.
PSU, I just took another really good one, with some more Wattage in case of some Extras in the future.. but relaly it's just cuz the price is great
USB adapters for WIFI mostly suck... just because of their size and hardware restriction, I would suggest you get a WIFI card, 40$ or so, should work much better (or even look for a motherboard with built in wifi adapter)

=====================

give us a budget, and list the things you already have (clearly), and i'm sure you will get some good help :)

Couple of quick things.

SSD:If you're going for keeping it lower budget, you can shave a few bucks off here by going with a Corsair MX300. Downside (IMHO) is just the lack of software that Samsung gives you. You'll likely never notice the difference, if any, in speed. Both are very good quality drives.

CPU Cooler: yeah it's not the best. Weak cooling compared to other, smaller, coolers out there. Plus, and this is a personal bias, I don't like their mounting system. I've seen the bolts on the back come loose on some builds. I'd say look at the Cryorig H7. It has a smaller footprint, and better cooling usually for less than $10 more. You can also practice your OCing chops on it with more headroom than the Hyper 212 will give you. Also, again bias, I think the Cryoig line looks a lot better when you have a glass side window.

[strike]PSU: The G1 series weren't that great from EVGA. Look to the G2/G3 series if you want to stick with EVGA. [/strike] *Edit didn't see the bit where you already had the PSU. When looking to upgrade in the future, make sure to take in to consideration what kind of cooling you want to do and if you intend on running SLI/Crossfire.

Wireless: It sucks, but I get not being able to run cable throughout the house. I'd really recommend looking at Ethernet over Powerline adapters for your situation. Damn near Ethernet speeds, without the hassle of running a cable across the house or the speed/issues that come with wireless.

*Edit you can nix the wifi adapter as your board has built in Wifi

Thanks for the help, i swapped out the hdd's like you mentioned and although the i7 might be better i wanna get used to overclocking (I will upgrade in the future to a unlocked i7) im also upgrading to a 500gb ssd aswell and the ram is just out of budget and 2666 is all that's compatible with the 8600k anyways the wifi adapter is taken out of the build due to built in wifi in the board, i appreciate your help :)

Thanks for your advice! i swapped the psu for a g3 and got rid of the evo for the Cryorig H7 and replaced the samsung ssd with the one you mentioned and i will figure out my options on the wifi later.

Good to hear that you got some helpful infor from all of the input.

But, I think it would still be good to post, what you are planning to buy and what you have.

Not to mention that Overclocking the i5 would cost you more on the cooler. But the gain is not exactly worth it, I just want to make that clear. Although I do completely understand that you want to play around with your system and tweak it, I just want to help you with your end result.

Cryorig will never get you to i7-8700 performance on the i5 :(

i appreciate your help, its just i wanna be able to tweak around as you mentioned and i know it might cost more but if i do get a better cooler it would also work for when id upgrade to an unlocked i7 for overall better performance like how you mentioned, Thanks :)

Yep.... the only sad thing with this way is that you will pay out twice for the CPU :(

at this point I would just honestly tell you to go for the i7-8700k, just because it's a waste if you buy the i5-8600k {and sell it later} then buy an i7-8700k USED. What's the difference in price? is it enough to skip out on now and pay it later? Most likely it's more $efficient to just buy the i7k now

I would however im trying to stick around 1500 cad (The build is around 1650 now and im okay with it) and in canadian currency the i7-8700k is 200$ more expensive then the i5-8600k so it just isn't really a option for me..

Haha, I live in Canada! And, im working on a 2500$ system right now too, so I know your pain man... but seriously here is my real opinion as a canadian buyer!

I still think this would be a better build for you. And I do know what you mean by pricing/parts

Yeah i get that, its just the case i like the nzxt s340 way more plus where i live its a 15% tax and im trying to get everything off amazon plus i already have a gpu, ill definitely contact you for the path of upgrades its just i like what i'm seeing currently and i really appreciate your help for getting me to it :)

well if that's the case.. don't forget.. NEWEGG only charges you (i think) 5% tax, not 15. you live in quebec? I've actually got a newegg $membership... it works out pretty well.. easy to wait for deals. And Generally 5.99-8.99 in shipping.

It normally isnt up to the website for tax, thats up to what province you live in and i live in newfoundland so shipping is the most expensive out of all of the provinces (Idk about the territories) plus we have 15% tax and no one builds around here so you cant really pick up used parts..

Thanks anyone for the answers, it is now 100% figured out no more need for posting here and idk how to close a thread properly...

you could either change your thread title to "[solved]Title"

Or at bottom of people's posts you can press the green button as, "SOLVED" or ANSWER i dont quite remember what it says, but it's green.. loll

Good choice on the G3. I've only personally dealt with the G2 series but I hear the G3 are solid units so you should be happy.

Since you already have wifi built in, play with that and see how it fairs. If it's problematic, or just not the speed you're looking for I'd look in to ethernet over powerline adapters and if they're right for your home setup. I use them in my house so I don't have to string cable everywhere and I'm getting near the speeds/latency I get on my main system thats connected directly in to the router. These are the two I'd recommend.
