i bought myself a Samsung 980 PRO NVME M.2 SSD 1TB
i have installed windows on said nvme drive, but my motherboard doesn't allow me to select it as a boot drive.
my motherboard is a MSI MPG X570 Gaming Edge Wifi.
my boot mode is on uefi.
I can boot into the windows that is on the nvme drive because on startup it asks me via which volume it should run windows on.
I tried endlessly searching on the interwebs but really cant find anything that seems useful

Edit;
I unplugged all the other drives and formatted the 980 Pro again.
After i did this i installed Windows using the installation tool and now i can select it as a boot drive!

Is the drive identified as a GPT drive or an MBR drive? You may have to perform an mbrtogpt conversion. How did you install windows on this drive and do you have other drives? Windows has a problem being installed if there are any other drives connected during the installation process. Additional drives have to be connected after installation is complete.
One person in 2019 had same problem and "solved" it by running in legacy boot but as the 1st answer here shows, thats not ideal if you w ant to update to windows 11 at some stage. See if you can see drive with changes he suggests - link

Often nvme drives don't show on same menu as sata drives when it comes to boot. Some bios show them on another menu. Not sure about yours.

Obviously its not a sata nvme so this shouldn't be reason - https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?threads/mpg-x570-gaming-edge-wifi-m2_1-slot-not-working.362226/

I had this problem on KabyLake build with M.2 drive, but sorry- I do not remember solution. But I did have to switch something in BIOS- not what USAFret linked to- it was type of drive related. I will remember if I hear it. Been few years ago.

SOLVED!

I unplugged all other drives and only kept the 980 Pro in.
I formatted it once again and used the windows installation tool and installed windows again.
Now i can select the drive as a Boot Drive!
Thanks everybody!
