I have recently built a Desktop PC (CPU: i5 8600k; Case: beQuiet Pure Base 600; Motherboard MSI Z370 Gaming Pro Carbon) and almost all components are now connected and working, only the fans on the walls of the case (not the CPU fan) make problems. Two of them were preinstalled in my case, but I can only find one fan cable to plug into the motherboard (at CPU_FAN4).
If I plug that in and boot the computer with the fan-voltage-controller-slider on my case set to 5V, it doesn't work (it does with 9V and 12V though). Everything lights up, the fans begin to move (CPU fan and all other fans). After 2 seconds though, everything turns dark again and the fans stop moving. As if power was removed. From that moment on, every ~3 seconds, all lights go on AGAIN and then immediately out and the fans twitch. Looks like a boot up & an immediate shutdown. That process can be stopped only by removing power for a while (10 seconds not enough).
If I don't plug that single fan cable anywhere and just let it hang in the case, I can boot even with the fan voltage set to 5V. But: Even though the system boots completely fine, and it runs perfectly, exactly one minute after startup the whole system just halts without any forewarning*. And that happens every time.
I believe that these problems are the result of the motherboard checking for properly connected fans and not finding them, thus shutting down after some time. Please tell me if you have any idea how make the system at least usable.
*EDIT: I just noticed the the system doesn't halt, but that the display turns black. The system still seems to run, only the display turns off (for some reason) or the mainboard decides to stop sending video data to the display. Also, when this happens, a small LED on the bottom right of my ASUS PA238QR display starts to blink white (usually it is white without blinking).
