Question [Solved] Upgraded from a GTX 970 to GTX 1660 Super with a 450w psu - blue screening

Hi, after getting all amped up my dreams were quickly crushed after booting up and getting all sorts of crashes.

I replaced the 970 with a 1660 super and now all I get is BSOD.

Would I be right in thinking its power draw issue> , when I put the 970 back its back to normal.

Did you wipe clean the old drivers and install new ones for the 1660?

Your power supply should be just fine, is your cpu overclocked? Also, this may sound stupid but do you have all the proper drivers installed?

No drive wiping, was hoping it would be a straight gfx card swap.
Put old 970 back in : Updated to the latest geforce drivers.

Edit: no overclocking.

A couple of times I have been able to boot into windows, with the new card, so I can see a display, then boom instant crash. But monst it just hangs in the bios screen. then crashes.

What is the error you get in the BSOD (if any)?

If i remember correctly was : critical process died.

Try doing a clean boot with the 1660, the error critical process died can happen because of some many things. It has happened to me because one of my cpus was bad but that is no the case with yours.

Will do, and I'll try the DDU and do a fresh driver install, will post back tonight.

Ok, editing this reply as it's not solved.

1. tested the new card in another pc with a 450w psu. worked fine.
2. used DDU to clean drivers

I thought what I did above was the solution, I was happy just to be booting again.

Before I buy a new 600w Psu, please help me confirm my suspicions.

I disconnected my 2tb hard drive, but when it's connected, it may recognise it, or not at all.

5 mins into playing Jedi fallen order, cpu goes 100% and then bsod.

It's gotta be Psu right?

Just a FYI, I upgraded my psu to a Thermaltake Toughpower SFX 600

Can confirm this has solved my blue screening.
