Solved! Very high System Interrupts, Win7, HP-Compaq desktop

This problem bugged me for days. I quickly found that the machine (an older backup model) was running like a dog under Win7 because System Interrupts were running at 65% & the CPU at 100%. After a long hunt the problem turned out to be in the settings for the Broadcom Ethernet driver. 'Moderate Interrupts' under the Advanced tab was set to Enable. Changing it to Disable caused Interrupts to plummet to less than 5%. Hallelujah!!!
