While using my windows 10 computer it abruptly died.
Upon reboot, internal leds light briefly on and fan spins, then stops no beeps.

I disconnected:
  • all usb devices
  • all external cables
Try restart, same behavior

Vacuumed and reset cmos, still misbehaving!

unplug all ram
restart
same behavior

Unplug all cables from power supply
fans stay on
Seems ok

Plug in fat ATX cable and restart
seems ok
Plug in small 12v ATX cable
Computer dies again
It appears the crash is related to the ATX 12v cable or destination

So what can cause this?
  • a faulty power supply,
  • mobo,
  • or CPU?
How to proceed, I dont have spare parts?

Help or suggestions appreciated.

Found another power supply,

made no difference with different power supply.

Cleaned big dust ball off cpu vanes, but computer dies before it could heat up, after about 3- 4 seconds.

Computer was doing heavy graphics crunching when it died cpu would have been at 100%.
DxO processing photo conversion and noise reduction in batch mode when it died, with no warning.
