I've already "brought back" Windows Photo Viewer on my Windows 10 device and set it as default app for all kinds of image files, but when I open the images, they always open with the Windows 10 Photos app. The only way I can open them with the Windows Photo Viewer is to go to "open with" and choose the program, but even though I also set "always use this app" in the prompt, it still opens them with the Windows 10 Photos app the next time I click on them. I've already tried choosing the program as the default app in the default apps page in settings, but it doesn't show up there. Can somebody help me? Thanks in advance.

you can completely remove the windows photos app.

tutorial here:
https://www.itsupportguides.com/knowledge-base/windows-10/windows-10-how-to-uninstall-photos-app/

you can actually get it back through the regular windows store once you remove it.

I've tried that (even though I want to keep the Photos app) and it didn't do anything, images now open with Paint 3D and all the other problems remain.

I can't FULLY remember, but I strongly believe it was one that worked in the past and that also works on my other PC. But, I did some further research just now and I actually found some advanced registry tweaks on a site that solved the problem!

So, for everyone that has the same problem, go to this link and apply METHOD 4: https://www.askvg.com/tip-restoring-windows-photo-viewer-as-default-in-windows-10

Thanks for the help everyone!
