What is "warmup" ?

How do IP connect work ?

How do dedicated (Doom3Ded.exe) server works ?

I tried the domm3ded and got a window like a console and started the server,
then stated doom 3, went to multiplayer but could not find the ded server in
internet, but found it in lan. Highlighted the game and joined. The dm loaded
and I was in that game. How do others connect to my ded server ?

"Warmup" is a mode where players can run around, get to know the map
(placement of weapons, GUI booby traps, etc.) and frag other players without
scoring (you don't get compensation for warmup kills, and when you actually
start the game, you lose any weapons/armor pickups)

When you're in Warmup mode, just press F3 to let the server know that you're
ready. When all the players are ready (or when the server's warmup period
expires), the game starts, and off they go!

Doom3 shows any games that you can access from your LAN in the LAN window,
not on the WAN. However, your server *should* show up on the WAN if you
host it as an internet game. I guess this is a LAN party helper, instead of
digging through lists of garbage for a LAN/WAN game, you and your buds just
browse the LAN and there you go.

I don't enjoy reading the same garbage I've read for the entire thread all
over again to get to the new information. So I post top-down. Exercise
those muscles and scroll down.

You're a moron. You also don't know how to properly use a signature
delimiter.

That's what snipping's for.

logical to me.
the part of the text to which you are replying to and post your response.
Pretty simple and
hear the same defense all the time, "It's easier for me to just hit reply
and start typing....". Quote
snip and also insist on top posting, it makes it a hassle to even follow the
flow of conversation. I
so easy to follow the logical ( ie. American language ) flow of the
conversation. When you fail to
you also can "snip" the irrelevant parts of the conversation. When you snip
and bottom post, it's
It's funny that all the people who defend top posting are the same ones who
can't figure out that

I also haven't been on newsgroups for quite a few years and don't really
know the ropes.

Well now, that's different. Did you notice that almost everyone else does
NOT top-post? Perhaps you could take a hint from that? It is generally
considered to be better to post your comments at the bottom, and ALSO to
trim out unnecessary text. Quote only the text that is relavent to what
you are saying. OK? It would be appreciated if you could do that, and
you'd probably get more helpful responses to your questions!

In case It's not clear that I am, I'm now posting from the bottom.

I haven't asked any, I'm answering them:

Anyway, thanks for the less than subtle reminders. I was posting
top-bottom at first because I was using Outlook Express and couldn't
seem to find an automatic option for this, but now that I'm onto
Thunderbird, I'll make sure I stick to this.

Did I get any answer to this ?

Did I ask where to post the answer ?

Did you forget what the subject was about ?

IP Connect is rather simple. Type in the ip of the host machine and hit
connect (The IP of a server is displayed in it's info, and your friends
can tell you the IP of their server; there are various sites on the
internet that spit your IP out for you if you dont know what it is)

>>How do dedicated (Doom3Ded.exe) server works ?

Doom3ded is the program to run a dedicated server.
Normally when you host a game, you can play along (at the expense of
performance)

A dedicated server is a server without the client (ie. you don't play
and host on the same machine)

Dedicated servers are faster than normal servers since the machine does
less work, and can be run on a constant basis.

Some clans have their own dedicated servers (usually passworded) for
members of the clan to play on/host events etc. Some dedicated servers
are hosted by companies, who then sell access to groups/people.

Doom3 allows you to host a dedicated server using the "create game"
window, just turn the "dedicated" option to "yes" and it will take care
of running doom3ded etc.

So, for most people with an average machine and average gaming needs,
just hosting a regular server/joining another server works fine.

Now you have.

> Did I ask where to post the answer ?
No, you didnt.

No.

Not just American, we Brits invented the English language 😉
