Hi everyone,

My current system is 8GB memory, some generic corsair stuff. A 7950 that's overclocked and sounds like an engine when gaming, a UP4 motherboard from Gigabyte, an i7-3820 CPU and default rates (3.7ghz) and a corsair case thats makes my build look like a submarine (I like submarines though).

I am looking to upgrade, I want to keep my motherboard because it's quite good, but it only offers lga 2011 socket. I want to upgrade my CPU but I am willing to wait for the broadwell release. Will there be 2011 sockets for broadwell? I am not sure what to take my CPU once I upgrade.

I also defnitely want to up my graphics card, but I am not sure what to take it to. I want it to be quite and cool running but also able to run any game on a 1080p monitor on max settings.

Pretty much just advice on a cpu and video card upgrade.

Well the 3820 is still a strong CPU, and if you were gonna consider upgrading it, it would recommend waiting till haswell-e processors are out.
It will come with a $1000 8 core / 16 threads CPU. (Sounds expensive, but you already got some decent stuff, so you need to spend money to actually see performance difference). The 7950 is still standing strong (its the r9 280, if I remember correctly, so I see no point of upgrading it to something lower than 780-r9 290) again you will need to spend money to actually see any performance difference.

The 3820 and 7950 should still be more than fine gaming on 1080p, and I wouldn't myself upgrade.

you can go for the i7 4820k which cost $319. it provides slightly better performance than your current cpu.

alternatives are the i7 3930k which is more expensive but performs better.($570)
or the i7 4930k ($577) which performs the best and cost the most.

Other options include i7 extreme editions which are very expensive ($900+).

regarding the graphics card you can buy a titan if you have a higher resolution 1440+
other wise a 760 or a 290x would do great.

Give me your budget for a much precise option.

Thanks for the quick answres guys.

vmN, the performance actually lags on that set-up quite a bit in some games. Like for AC4, a pretty heavy game, I can't hit 60FPS as an average on max. When I overclocked the 7950, sure it hit is sometimes but it also sounded like a car. Very loud which is something I really dislike :/ Are the 280s and 290s any quieter?

I read the nVidia cars ran prety quiet. What about waiting for the 800 series of nvidia? You think that's a good idea?

To Gaming God, Those chips would be the ivy bridge-e arch right? I think like vmN said that waiting for haswell-e would be the best to see a major performance boost. But you know I'm not too sure. I haven't been keeping myself updated too well on the new tech coming out.

My budget for a new processor would be below the 3930k price :/ so yeah, waiting for haswell e or broadwell is what I think I'll do.

Intotal for my new cpu and video card combined I think 800$ would be about right, but I am willing to wait for the new stuff to arrive first.

in that case wait for the haswell e or broadwell processors. and regarding the gpu you can either buy the 790 which will be released shortly(it will be the best GPU in all aspects better than the TITAN BLACK-which itself is better than the 780Ti by the smallest of all margins).

the r9 series on not very good. I have one system using the 290X card, and I am not satisfied with its performance when comparing with my other cpu using the 780Ti.
