Some AMD 970 chipset motherboards may need a BIOS update prior to using Vishera CPUs

I found a YouTube video saying that the motherboard has an issue, is it true and if it is how minor or major is it? It is about throttling problem or something. The video www.youtube.com/watch?v=myK83nBHj_w

Your build sucks.

Solution

No problem. I'll explain each component, starting with most important.

PSU: The one you picked is a poor quality EVGA unit made by Compucase. The one I picked is a high reliability EVGA unit made by Superflower (Golden Green).

CPU: You picked an outdated AMD CPU that, while it has 6 cores, each one is very weak for game engines. It would take massive overclocking of about 6GHz to be on the same level as the Haswell i3. Maybe you have a few tanks of liquid nitrogen...

Graphics card: R9 290 is much stronger than the R9 285, but it needs the beefier PSU or it will burn your house down.

Motherboard: low end H97 has everythign you need to run everything else.

Solid State Drive: I recommend to start with an SSD, and get your OS and main games loaded. Add a regular HDD later if you need it for bulk files. You will appreciate the SSD speed when loading up those game levels.

RAM: H97 is limited to DDR3-1600, but the Intel memory controller is faster regardless.

Case: I picked you a popular entry level case.

Windows 10: It won't be free for long, but right now the beta is. Download from Microsoft, and tell them what you think of it. Later on down the road you will need to buy a license.

Don't say stupid things. You know damn well that there won't be any DX 12 games for a very long time, just like with DX10 and 11. Hell, a lot of new games are still DX9... By the time DX12 actually has some titles, MAYBE AMD will have a descent CPU on the market. As of right now, the FX-6300 Vishera is a sloth with L3 cache problems. It's not even as fast as the cheaper Athlon 860K in gaming, let alone a Haswell i3.

I missed an active thread to Vsauce, sorry!

Well, the build suggested by damric will outperform yours, surely. R9 290 is MUCH more stronger than R9 285, and i3 is MUCH better than FX 6 currently. You're looking at a 3 year old platform if you consider FX, with no scope of further updates.

For the incompatibility note: 970 chipset was released before Piledriver CPUs so PPP is just being extra-cautious, it's been a good amount of time since they released, so any 970 based board will support Piledriver CPUs.

R9 290 requires a lot of power, so unless you have a decent high wattage and more importantly high quality PSU in place, the rig may fail to boot. If, by chance, you get a high wattage crap quality PSU, it might be risky for your components and even your desk.
