No, you're fine. All AM3+ socket boards made for the last few years have supported the FX-6300 with no need of a BIOS update.

The CPU does require a BIOS update, but, even if let's say the board is too old, you can use BIOS Flashback, if needed.
Check here http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/M5A97_R20/HelpDesk_CPU/ the BIOS version needed for each CPU.
I'd select different power supply (something like http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151139 or http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817207030)

That board would have had to have been sitting on the shelf in their warehouse for years to need a BIOS update for the FX-6300. That CPU is recognized ever since BIOS version 1006, which was out in November of 2012.
