Some doubts on internal and external graphics working,

1)my pc has 2 gb external graphics and 1.5 gb internal graphics but still in games like gta 5 i see only 2 gb external graphics available in graphic settings. why?
2) can internal and external graphics be mixed to create greater performance in gaming?
