Some Memory info on the R42X/N40 lines

I didn't like the way they said 1000mhz for DDR1 (sic), when in fact it's 500mhz with an EFFECTIVE seed of 1000mhz.

Oh well that's nitpicking I guess, but it wouldn't be the first time I've been accused of that.

Inquirer offers a little insight into the choices, and plays going on for the new cards. Hope the R423 gets some killer memory (first chance for the GDDR3 before the R450? :evil: ), here it is;

really....who cares? lolz.... i mean FX5800Ultra had those WHOOPING 1000mhz DDR-II on them.....SPECs dont mean much anymore 😛 Look at Volari, a perfect example of a piece of silicon that has a bunch of SPECs and no performance

Listen up dork....ATi has the plumbing to put that memory to good use.....

Considering they are adding more AA and AF in the next cards it should make a huge difference to both. And seriously if you put that memory on the current ATI's they would jump ahead by a wide margin.

Still can't wait, hope someone goes NUTZ with the memory on the first round of R423s, I sure would hate to see Pwercolor or Gigacube make me feel bad about my purchase later. Her wait didn't they do that to you! JK! :tongue:

Your saying that those specs mean nothing isn't valid. The 1000mhz memory on the 5800 is still just as meaningfull as it sounds. The only reason the 5800's 1000mhz memory dosn't do better then a 5900's 850mhz memory is because the 5800 only had a 128bit memory bandwidth compared to the 5900's 256bit. Thus the specs very clearly indicated the performance difference. Also the 5800's 500mhz core is still the fastest core from Nvidia on a stock settings allowing the 5800 to have higher pixel fill rates then even the 5950 card. So specs do mean more then you may think.

I went from a 9800 Pro to a 4200. Without AA/AF, the 4200s a horse.
I only run 1024x768 though.

I'm going to do a complete system upgrade from my 1700+/NV25 rig to a A64 3000+/NV40..
mmm lanboy case, LCD monitor, I can finally quit radiating my eyes as I have for the past 15 years.. *drool*

Specs are nice numbers, but Architecture is King.

I agree, but hopefully at least one of them will provide good architecture to go along with the specs. 😎

heh, yea. if theres one thing we should have learned the last 2 years, is NOT to listen to "previews" of upcoming hardware
