Mediatek RT7610 chips are being used in many of the cheaper rt-wn712 cards for the mini wifi dongles. These cards are plug-n-play in Windows 8.1, but the driver MT7610 must be downloaded for earlier versions, MAC and Linux. I have been unable to make them work with Puppy linux and Android-X86 so far. Most tablets are using the Realtek RTL8818 drivers especially the windows tablets. Good luck, I hope that this helps someone. Try one or the other. They work on my Desktop in windows 7. These drivers seem to be retro-compatible to earlier versions of windows.

If you buy one of the Cheap WIFI USB dongles and you can't get it to work on windows 7 and earlier versions download the rt7610 or rt 7610 usb drivers from mediatek . They work. If you want to use them in Linux they do work in certain distros, but unsupported distros can be a (b)witch. Windows 8.1 seems to work with all of the major chipsets. enough said.
If your domgle doesn't work download RT7601 from mediatek or reattek RTL8818 one or the other of them should work. If not I'll buy your dongle from you for $2.00 bucks each. I'm serious . but I only accept minimum lots of 20. Contact me at rayjeronis1@netzero.com for shipping address.

Download Mediatek mmt7610 drivers for USB or Realtek RTL8818. Try both one should work with your adapter. Raltek rtl8818 chipsets are used in most of the windows tablets and they work fine with Android-X86 and Puppy Linux. Try one of the dongles that use Rtl8818 if you want to run Live CDs of android or Puppy. Mine work fine. Now all I have to do is work out how to install either of them over windows 8.1 in my tablet. The cheap wifi dongles all work in windows 8.1 , but my install is damaged and i need a new OS. The old F12 Bios is no problem but UEFI really sucks. Can't seem to get my tablet to boot my Install flash drive. Wise me luck.

I also suggest that you change you SSID password frequently to avoid piracy of your service. They have WIFI password crackers out there. They can hack you in less than 30 seconds. Ethernet isn't as easy to hack. What dat mean?Hard wire you cell modem or DSL router and no one will steal you signal.
