Some overclocking questions

I have my 4690K OCed to 4.3ghz at 1.14vcore. And because I have the vrm and LLC on auto, the mobo bumped it up to extreme and level 8.

1. What's the difference betwee Optimized and Extreme on the VRM? Would it be better to manually change it to optimized for a mild overclock?

2. Is the LLC ok to leave at auto?

Solution

Then do what every seasoned overclocker does, experiment taking manual control over the LLC, and conduct your own tests to learn how it changes the end results out in the operating system.

I've never left mine on auto, ever!

Each M/B brand handles LLC differently and the only way to know is test it yourself, and see what happens to the end results, then you will decide the best way to set it up to your liking.

Everything is running perfectly. But for a simple overclock of 4.3Ghz, the mobo chooses the same extreme overclock LLC and VRM as when i overclock to 4.6ghz. It just seems a little weird that a small overclock like that would require settings of what heavy overclocks use.

BTW... I'm pretty new to overclocking on these new chips, i've only overclocked older chips. And when i'm overclocking I like to learn as much as possible about how everything is affecting the overclock.

Ok thx. I'll do that then (when i get around to overclocking), because i was afraid of getting vboost.

How about the VRM settings?
