Hi
Recently I was given an old Windows XP computer that I am using to learn about computer hardware. I have also been given a free CPU and I would like to have a go at replacing the CPU but I am unsure if it is compatible with the socket. I have attached a photo of the socket and the original CPU which is Intel Pentium 4 and the new CPU which is an Intel Celeron but not sure exactly what kind.

Can these CPUs be replaced?
Also, if you can identify the exact make of the Celeron, will it improve performance?
As I said I got both of these for free so I am not too worried if there is some risk of it no longer working

Thanks

First you have to know exact MB and it's BIOS designation of your motherboard than check CPU compatibility on manufacturer's site.

My motherboard is Intel D865GBF and the processor should be competitive but the computer is not starting up. The BIOS version is 08.00.09 will the BIOS need to be updated?
