Hi I recently bought a Gainward Geforce FX 5600 Ultra/760 TV/DVI 128MB DDR card and have some questions about overclocking it.

Now I know Nividia boards are the unpopular "brand" here so I will both put my flame suit on, and at the same time ask that you all bear with me instead of just jumping and saying "buy Radeon 9600 Pro". I read the guide at this site (it's the only site that gives me reviews that I can follow clearly and understand >_< much less locate) and it seemed to show that the card I purchased was my best bet. It was cheaper then the 9600 Pro from where I purchase (I live in New Zealand, so choices are limited) and it seemed to perform better. Now I understand that this could be wrong, and I may be able to take it back and get a Radeon, but first I rather get this card working and see if I like it.

My issue is, as I understand from reading THG's review that I am suppose to be able to achieve using Expert Tool a Core Clock Setting of 400 and a Memory Clock setting of 800. Since I don't have the "Golden Sample" I think this is my maximum. Though reaching 450/900 would be nice if possible =/.

Yet when I open ExperTool the max 3d Clock speeds I can get are 330/440 Mhz... Is this right? >_< Am I just stupid and not realizing that there is some hidden multiplier? This seems awfully low and gives me a VERY good reason to return it (and a good excuse too) and get a 9600 Pro instead.

Your help is greatly appreciated. It's very nice to find a place where people are willing to help the unfortunate (namely ignorant) people like myself =). I should go take a course or something to understand all this stuff better.

Good luck with that. The REV.2 is a GOOD board. The REV.1 isn't terrible just not up to the performance of it's sibling or it's main competition. Before you return it just check to make sure the price diff. is worth it.
Just a chance for sober second thought before you go through the process of returning it. Check the review I posted, the Rev.1 isn't terrible, thats the non-ultra. It's just a question of getting a GOOD price. However if you want max performance try to get the REV.2 if you want to stick with NV. Just check to make sure the price isn't jacked to high-heaven.

BTW, don't let us scare you, if it runs the games you want at the levels you want. Who cares what Bungholios you get. However if you CAN get the REV.2 for about as much, the whole board is improved (including the chip), it's nice.
