Greetings,
Firstly, to fix the group issue, open the main Messenger window, click the Tools menu, then
Sort Contacts By, and then choose Online/Offline.
Secondly, have you recently updated to SP2? If so, the SP2 version of Windows Messenger
doesn't support Profiles (and other things). You'll need to go back to the previous version
from here:

You'll also need the MSN Add-In:
