Ok, I'm having sound issues with SOME videos. SOME videos. I must stress that. The problem is that the sound won't come through my speakers, only though my HDMI monitor or TV.

sample video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zjVI6pioCa0

Windows 10 Pro (fresh install). AMD r9 290, with latest drivers.

I thought it might be codecs, as downloading the videos didn't solve the problem until I also downloaded VLC Player. To be clear, using Media Player Classic doesn't solve the problem. It STILL only plays sound through HDMI. VLC plays sound regardless of the destination device.

I downloaded the videos in both MP4 and WEBM.

This problem completely confounds me and I can't find any help with searches...

Some potential solutions have discussed the msac32.drv. But I updated that and made sure the proper lines were in the registry. Still no dice.

Help would be greatly appreciated for this most annoying problem. Thanks!

I think I fixed it... (of course, just after posting a message online...) But here's what I did, in case others need help:

Settings -> Sound -> Advanced Sound Options (bottom of page) -> Selected "Speakers" for the default for everything listed.

I still don't understand WHY this was a problem, but a fix is a fix.
