I just want to search for files/shortcuts to installed programs/executables etc and it's driving me crazy with the worthless search results i'm getting.

I am searching for files I know full well are on my pc and all the useless windows search is giving me is web links, windows apps, options screens and the odd completely unrelated file.

Seriously.... this can't be right.... is the search functionality of windows 10 broken? I find that hard to believe.

What am I doing wrong? Why can't I just type the name of part of a file I know I have on the computer and it gives me a list of files matching that?

Damn windows 10, it sure looks nicer than 7 but what a complete backwards step in functionality.....

You can disable web searches through the start menu.

Typically if I were looking for something on the computer I would search using explorer, not Cortana or the Start Menu, that will search all the files on your system, and you can use wildcards and the like to speed up searches.

Aha, that's what i was looking for.

I think I've become too accustomed to using the start menu as it usually works quite well for finding settings menus.
Thanks you.
