Something is wrong

i have a maximus hero vii motherboard and a sapphire R9 280 and the display is not working and everytime i plug in my 6 pin connectors to my graphics card my computer won't even boot up. any ideas on what is wrong?

i have a 630 watt 80 plus bronze certified rosewill, R9-280, WD black 3TB hard drive, asus maximus VII hero LGA1150, and a i5-4690K quad-core 3.5GHz LGA1150 CPU.
