Sometimes Boot process is very long

I have a few issues with my system that I could use someones learned insight about:

One is that sometimes the boot process takes a very long time, sometimes 5seconds, sometimes 8 or 9 seconds....

But sometimes I have noticed that the boot screen will sit there for 20 seconds, (watching the blue ticker tape counter on the windows boot screen) and then it finally finishes loading... I noticed my hard drive light is lit completely for a long time during most of this wait...

Any help would be appreciated... thanks

Those blue dots racing across the screen normally are 6 - 12 seconds, depending on how many programs you have starting up. If it always normalizes after the 20 second one, don't worry.

ok buddy, I hear you, dont worry, be thankful that it did finally boot right?.... but something isnt right. It shouldn't take 20 seconds one time and only 5 seconds the next should it?

That just tells me XP is doing something to adjust.

If it is truly sporadic (once every 50 boots say), don't worry.

As long as all your scans are good - av and anti-spyware.

Hi Guys,

I need some help please. My Win XP Pro SP2 tkaes forever to load, it gets stuck by the scrren wehere the blue bar runs across the screen ,
It takes about a minute or 2 before it goes inot windows. I do not have alot of programs on my pc out of my 120Gig HHD I have 111Gig left. No Anti Virus software installed. One game installed.

My pc specs are :

AMD64 3000+ OC'ed to 2000Mhs
nForce4 Ulta
1024MB DDR 400
6600GT PCI-E (500/1000) OC'ed to 550/1150
120Gig HDD
500W PSU

Please help.

We had a poster in this forum fix this by unchecking Automatic Updates.

He was not connected to the net.
