why I put up with Windows.
<rant>
So I come home today, and find my system silently waiting for me with a bluescreen. (kmode_exception, dealing with the kernel, etc) Wonderful, I think, she's right on time. It's been six months since the last time it did this. And it's never late. She's worked without a glitch since the last install. No problems whatsoever. So now I follow my usual routine, turn it off for a while to let it cool down (just in case), turn it back on and wait for the inevitable bluescreen. Which of course occurs, followed directly by a reboot, halfway through the boot process. Right before the login screen. I get this result no matter what boot option I choose; safemode, last known good hardware, debugging mode, all of them. My only option now is to reinstall. And here's the part that really bakes my cookie... I can't simply "repair" the current installation, it will continue to bluescreen as soon as the installer is finished. I *have* to make a completely fresh install. And of course then spend 8 hours installing critical updates and all of my software again. And it will then run great for another six months. Then it will again bluescreen and never allow itself to boot after that until its reinstalled again.
</rant>
Now the question is, does anyone else have any idea of what I can do besides reinstall? I've already tried replacing some of the key system files while in the recovery command prompt, that didn't help. Is there a log file I could check while in the command prompt that may give me an idea of what killed it this time?
At least I still have my Linux box and my Mac to work on. They have yet to fail me. 😉
