I have an Acer Aspire E1-571 which sometimes when I wake it up - it gets to the point that the power light comes on (next to the battery light on the front edge) and the light on the power button is on, but the screen never does anything. The only thing I can do is hold the power button down until it shuts down altogether.

Any ideas as to why it might happen some times and others it works fine?

Thanks
Nigel

For clarification: Are you sure you're referring to Sleep (low power state) and not Hibernation (powered off, Windows session saved on hard drive)?

If you're using sleep but don't have your power settings configured to prevent hibernation, the laptop may be hibernating after a certain amount of time of inactivity. Either way, you can try disabling hibernation altogether and/or updating the system firmware (BIOS + EC). Sometimes this can be a firmware bug. It's also worth updating your drivers, if any available.
