Question Sometimes the PC monitor does not display anything ?

Hey guys,
I have a peculiar problem. I got my hands on a computer which stopped displaying anything. I presumed it was the graphics card, since Mobo LED indicated VGA fault. So I took the GPU out. CPU is AMD Ryzen 7 3700X so I couldn't test it with iGPU.

I put in my old GTX 970 and voila I had an image. So I thought it was GPU.
Then I put in my old RTX 3070 Ti GPU and that worked as well.
This left me bit confused. All my testing was done in vertical position. So I put all back in case, secured it and filpped it into correct position and it still worked. So I returned it to the customer.

Now I have the computer back because he came home and of course - no image, and moving the GPU to the second PCI slot didn't help.

So I have the computer in vertical position and I have an image again.
I suspect motherboard is at fault but I am not sure how to test it. Any ideas?

Thanks

Dave

I switched it. Image is ok for now. I also took the computer and went for a walk - I feel that PCI slot grip on card is wonky, wiggly. Not sure how to describe it better 😀
Yeah I understand what you mean by the PCIe slot grip being wonky or wiggly, it could not be resitted properly but at the same time, it might be because of the weight that 3070 Ti has, you could get a GPU stand to keep it nice and straight if you want. You said that you removed the 3070 Ti and put GTX 970 to test if the latter works, was it wonky or wiggly too when you plugged that in too?

That's good that the image is okay for now though, keep me posted about it. 👍

I will try reseating 970. I told customer about the stand. We might look into it.
The question is right now. Do I buy new motherboard? Or will that stand solve it.

The story began with exhaust fan doing some noise. So he knocked on it. And one day the image was gone.

The stand doesn't cost much at all so start with that, if it persists, I wouldn't worry about it as long as image is fine for a long time. Only buy a new motherboard when it's absolutely necessary, such as the image starting to act up again, which can be because of the grip but I do not know for sure
