Seems like PS3 is really offering more bang for the buck than the competition. Blue Ray, 320 gbs.... it adds up. That said I picked the PS3 because its less likely to break than the competition.
classic sony still overpricing for their hardware. too bad alot of stupid people still buy this crap instead of just investing $40 and put 1 TB in it instead of paying $100 for 320gb
@Mr. Pizza:
Because it runs a 2.5" drive, not 3.5", and those haven't come out in 1tb flavours yet. But if your time machine can do it for me, be my guest.

/facepalm there are two 2.5" 1TB drives on newegg for $140 and $130.

Those are too big. Those are 12.5mm high, PS3 uses 9.5mm.

How'd you get your paradox field compensator to work? Mine's always falling out of alignment during the time travel initiation sequence. I've tried increasing the tachyon emitter array power all the way to 11 but it didn't help.

As others have remarked there are 1tb 2.5" drives that are 12.5mm
There is also the idea that not everyone who wants a PS3 will want a 750 or 1tb drive in it. Maybe they are just fine with the 160gb? What loss of sales will they have with the added cost of a bigger drive? Will there be enough customers to buy models with a 1TB drive to balance out the cost of producing another separate line of hardware?
These are all big questions to ask when designing products. Perhaps Sony feels they can let the enthusiasts do the HDD replacement on their own to fill the niche who need that much space?
[citation][nom]tharkis842[/nom]I'd be more impressed if Sony kept the 120gb/250gb drives but in 7200rpm flavors. Those load times can be terrible sometimes.[/citation]
Has anyone tried an SSD in the PS3 yet?

the hell you talking about? I just got my mr fusion and its totally compatible with my flux capacitor and once my delorean hits 88 well lets just say i'll be playing crysis 3 on my 8970x2.
The 320gb move bundle might be good to entice new buyers. I'm not sure how much cheaper it is to buy the console bundle then to buy move seperately, but i'd be sure there's a saving there. So, good for those getting their first PS3.
The HDD size increase isn't anything that spectacular. As said much previous, you can just install your own HDD. I'm sure there'd be some people who wouldn't want to install their own HDD though.

I've heard that it has been tested, but the improvement in speed wasn't as great as expected.
[citation][nom]irh_1974[/nom]http://uk.gear.ign.com/dor/article [...] 53tt2dm48aMy bad, found it - but cost is obviously ridiculous[/citation]
Oops, my bad not reading your second post. I think i'd still prefer a HDD for the extra space... not sure what 500gb SSD's cost.. but I doubt they're cheap.
I payed 500$ for my ps3 when it first came out. The backwards compatible is always a plus. Only drawback is the fan, which is like 75% of the system, can be very loud. But that's bout it, I'm used to it though since my pc has 8 fans. Anyhow 400$ for all that, wow! Sony knows how give more bang for your buck. Love it! Though we have 2 ps3s already, 1 more can't hurt haha.
Don't listen to the dummies at ign uk . The test they did were as effective as running crysis test on a 5870 and p4 CPU . Why test games on bluray when you obviously know that the bluray read speed is the bottleneck ? They should have done stuff like game launch on SSD , ie burnot paradise on SSD vs on bluray ; timed start up , back up . The stuff that depend heavily on the HDD/SSD . It most likely won't improve load time , obviously .

[citation][nom]ares1214[/nom]FAIL. Its called buy a 40 gig one with backwards compatibility, and pop a 500 or 320 gig hdd in there for WAY less than what this costs.[/citation]
It'd be interesting to find some with backwards compatibility for that cheap. I remember about a year or so after they cut the PS2 compatibility, I was looking for the early models with PS2 support.
I managed to find one online... but ended up paying about $400 extra.
People over here are selling their broken original models (with the PS2 compatibility), and getting enough money from it to buy a new PS3 with a few games.
