Depends on the model. Canon are generally higher quality.

I am using but Sony A290 camera and i think I kind of like it because it has a 14 megapixels, 2.7 inch LCD screen and a viewfinder. Moreover, it came with an internal image stabilization built in system, not to talk about the wonderful picture quality. However, it is a little bit expensive though it worth the price to my understanding.
