I have a Sony Vaio VPCF13YFX, aka model PCG-81115L. The MB needs replacing and I need to know the difference between my MB

MBX-235

with the # on memory slot being: A1796418B

and one someone says is going to work that reads

Will this work? Is there a way to tell if the hardware, CMOS and BIOS are compatible?

You're replacing the motherboard, as long as it fits it will work. The BIOS is physically attached to the motherboard, so that isn't a worry at all.

Have you ever done this before? Regret usually sets in around the 42nd screw.

If the board is not the proper proper board then it is not really an issue with compatibility with BIOS, chipset, cpu, memory, etc.
Now the issue is though is if all the little ribbon cables are the same (keyboard, touchpad, video, any usb/sound/etc external boards,).

And @greens..LOL on 42nd screw.

I was hoping to find somewhere that has exact specs for each MB. Here is the full back story:

A while back (over a year ago) I started having startup issues with this laptop. It would start, run for 10 to 15 minutes then go black. It got progressively worse to the point that it would only start to boot before going black. The power, hdd, and wireless lights were still on, as was the fan but nothing else.

I tried lots of solutions and finally did an oven reflow which worked. That worked for a few months then the issues started again. So it was back to the oven. Only problem was I set the oven to the wrong cycle and baked the MB to death. Components dropped off and the layers were splitting so now I needed a new MB.

I ordered one that had the above specs, was told it would work and put everything back together. No screen. Computer starts but screen is blank. The backlight lights and if I push the display off button you see the light go off. If I attach a secondary monitor and turn the computer back on I can use the computer. Everything is working. The screen never had an issue.

Somewhere I saw that the same model later had a 1080 screen. Mine is a 900 vertical. I suspect that the BIOS or CMOS is different and the computer won't recognize the screen because it is a different size in a "C" mb compared to a "B" mb.

All physical components connect as usual. Is there a place to read what BIOS or CMOS a MB has?

BTW another vendor is telling me the "C" will work. Not if the CMOS or BIOS is wrong from what I can tell.

Also I did try and update the BIOS but the update won't install because it doesn't recognize the "C" board as the correct computer

It does all fit. It is just that the BIOS or CMOS from the "C" mb will not recognize the screen since it is a different size than the original "B" mb

There are actually 5 different screens for this model. There are 2 different resolutions and different backlight setups.

Makes me suspect that the correct MB is imperative as CMOS depends on matching hardware to work.
