Pretty good start, considering the limited games and the healthy amount available for the PS3. Still going to wait until March~April batch... get some kinks worked out.

Meanwhile: For the month of November - Windows 7 market-share had more GROWTH than Windows 8 and 8.1 combined. ie: The Excitement about the tons of enhancements and fixes for Windows 8.1 = NOBoDY CARED! Which was expected.

PS: at a business lunch meeting/GTG thingy yesterday. A biz woman was talking about how her OLD SLOW XP desktop was on its last legs. With my handy-dandy Android phone, I showed her a Lenovo Thinkcenter for $650 (w/ Win7Pro) which she'll get.... rather than going to best buy for a $400 HP with Win8... which she did not want. See Microsoft, we're Helping.

There will not be anymore growth with 8 as 8.1 is a free update so any 8 machines will move to 8.1.

And its funny you mention that as I have met a lot of IT people who like 8.1 since the back end features are what matter most.

I love 7. But I feel 8.1 is better in every way as I don't care about the start menu anyways.

As for the PS4 sales numbers, they are good. I am just waiting to see results of failures for it vs the XB1. The larger GPU will cause more heat and in the end cause more potential for failure.

Then again PC is better for gaming so I don't really care.

XP is still a great OS and a defrag will always perk up a sluggish system. Turning off crap that 'speeds up' file searches and openings works wonders too. Putting a SSD in an XP machine is another plus. I use a firewall and multiple SW to protect my XP system and have never had any problems with it being secure.

Compared to 7 and 8 XP is a much quieter OS with a fraction of useless background processes.

According to results yesterday, more 360s sold than PS3s and PS4s combined. That's of course only from major retailers but still a interesting number.

And XP was a great OS. Today it is not. It cannot use more than 1GB of system RAM effectively, hence why a system with 1GB of RAM and 4GB of RAM never seem to differ in performance. It also does not utilize multi-core CPUs properly. XP will load core 0, then core 1 then core 2 etc. Vista and up will load each core as evenly as possible.

XP as well does not have the same advanced securities. For example, the MBR is on the main OS partition making it easy to be messed with by viruses. The MBR for 7/8/8.1 is on a separate hidden partition which makes it harder for viruses to get to as most viruses target C:\.

You can keep using XP but you will start to find software and hardware is not going to work on it anymore. A lot of companies are starting to drop support. Microsoft has, as the last Office to work on XP is 2010.

Err say what? The difference between 1 2 and 4 gigs of ram on xp is night and day.... Unless the only thing you do is browse non java/flash web pages or something...

I use 4 gig and 2 gig ram xp systems daily, and a 1 gig xp system about once a month. The 2 gig system is constantly going to page file and slowing down compared to my 4 gig system. I normally have a load of about 3 gigs, so i constantly see the difference between 2 and 4 gig nearly every day, and its a pretty massive difference between paging and non paging workloads. Even with a light workload the 1 gig system paging and slowing down, its unusable for anything i normally do, but fine for the person who does use it with a lighter load.

I really don't understand these consoles. Their hardware is already outdated and can't even render today's games in true 1080. The 720 is especially bad. A PC or something upgradable like the Steambox is going to be a much better bet long term. Plus there's that little matter of PSN and XBL Gold subscriptions to worry about.

My guess is Sony and Microsoft are using the relatively low end hardware as a temporary solution until we more fully transition into game streaming and cloud based gaming, for which these consoles will be fine. Microsoft has already demoed the tech. It's all about securing a place in the living room.

just point me towards the $150 PS3 12GB. My current console is an OG xbox. I have plenty of "old" 40+ GB HDs I can put in it and not buy a ps4 for 7 years. What a waste of money, did you see how much that XBONE day one costs? lmfao

Yes, the 360 sold more than the PS4 on black Friday. Even Xbones out-sold PS4s... But keep in mind of the following info:

- Those numbers are from Target and Walmart in %, not sales numbers.
- The PS4 is sold out... so some bought "something".
- The 360 was discounted down to $100.

So lets say... only 200,000 PS4s sold (no more inventory). But MS sold 400,000 xBones before selling out or have remaining stock. This still hurts Sony sales, of course - but they can only build so many so fast. It took SONY 12 months to sell about 6m PS3.

- What is amazing is that the WiiU sold 6% on black friday... yet it was twice the price of the PS3.
